The method
- Describe your aim: discovering an activity, returning to it or joining a group. Record the club contact and advertised location. A directory entry does not confirm admission to a specific session.
- Ask about the intended group, times, equipment, registration and any required documents. Record replies actually received. Keep annual fees separate from trial-session costs.
- After the session distinguish observations from impressions: actual duration, welcome arrangements, remaining questions and desire to return. Discuss personal difficulty with the instructor instead of judging every group from one experience.
Your recording grid
Use these columns to keep information about your own project. The sheet is blank; you can print it and fill it in.
Fictional worked example
In a fictional example, a club offers several levels but the listed slot serves only one group. The notebook retains a request for a suitable session.
The record to keep
Keep the contact, confirmed session and replies. Compare clubs using the same questions rather than presentation alone.
What this method can establish
The sheet certifies no medical fitness, qualification or insurance. Confirm practice conditions with the club and appropriate advisers.
Useful questions before you start
Does a listed club always offer a trial?
Ask the club about availability and session conditions.
Does a published fee cover my trial?
Check what it includes and whether it applies to your proposed session.
