Everyday practical guides

Plan a visit using a museum’s website

Prepare your visit using the museum’s own information: date, exhibition, access, ticket and particular needs. A general collection page does not confirm practical arrangements for the chosen day.

The method

  1. Choose the date and what you want to see. Distinguish permanent collection, temporary exhibition and activity; check that information concerns the same museum and the correct location.
  2. Read practical pages about opening, entrance, booking and accessibility. Reach ticketing from the museum website and examine offer conditions without assuming one ticket covers every activity.
  3. Prepare the journey, available time and a few priority works or rooms. Consult a plan if available and keep an alternative if a room or activity is inaccessible.

Fictional worked example

A fictional visit targets a Saturday afternoon exhibition. Record its dates, location, ticket type to examine and stated entrance. Three selected works give the visit a focus; they do not replace confirmation of the slot or any restrictions.

The record to keep

Keep visit, exhibition and ticketing links with reading date. Store personal confirmation separately from shared notes.

What this method can establish

Opening times, prices and access may change. This plan is neither a booking nor guaranteed access to a particular artwork or room.
