Everyday practical guides

Prepare a reuse project before moving an object

Donating, renting, repairing and buying used items address different needs. ADEME presents a tool for locating these options. Clarify the need and practical conditions before recording an object as actually reused.

The method

  1. Describe the object, visible condition and intended use. Separate observations from untested functions. Note dimensions relevant to transport and installation without hiding known defects.
  2. Find the solution matching your need. Ask the organisation about acceptance conditions or the other person about transfer arrangements. A located address confirms neither acceptance nor an appointment.
  3. Plan movement after clarifying essential points: appointment, access, transport and any repair. Record what actually happened afterwards; offered and transferred remain separate states.

Your recording grid

Use these columns to keep information about your own project. The sheet is blank; you can print it and fill it in.

Fictional worked example

In a fictional project, a chair is offered to an organisation that requests photographs before replying. The notebook retains pending status instead of calling the donation complete.

The record to keep

Keep an honest description, contact and transfer confirmation. Update an advertisement when the project changes.

What this method can establish

The sheet calculates no environmental benefit and certifies no object safety. Equipment presenting a risk requires an appropriate check.

Useful questions before you start

Does a found address confirm acceptance?

Ask the organisation about its conditions before transporting the object.

Is an offered object already reused?

Keep a separate status until the transfer actually happens.
